Barbara L. Shaw of Camarillo, an artist who lived in Ventura County nearly 40 years, died Thursday in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. She was 68.
Shaw, the wife of retired Ventura County Superior Court Judge Robert L. Shaw, was born Dec. 6, 1928, in Sunflower, Kan. After retiring from a career as a technical drafter, she became an artist, exhibiting her watercolors, mixed media, ceramics and sculptures in local galleries and art shows.
Family members said Shaw enjoyed bird-watching, fly-fishing, backpacking and downhill skiing. She was a Winter Olympics hopeful in the early 1950s, but a broken leg took her out of competition in Sun Valley, Idaho.
In addition to her husband, Shaw is survived by two daughters, Sarah and Martha; a son, Timothy; and a granddaughter.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary, Camarillo.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Audubon Society.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary, Camarillo.
