Oil, Water Removed at Construction Site
Cleanup crews removed a pool of oil and water Saturday that had been discovered in a buried concrete basin by workers building a new parking structure in downtown Ventura.
The foot-deep pool unearthed Friday was mostly water with a shiny black residue of heavy machine oil floating on top. Workers believed it was left over from an old printing facility on the site.
Workers using a diesel-powered pump to suck the sludge away said it will be taken to a facility for recycling and will not delay construction or Monday’s official ground-breaking ceremony.
