DreamWorks Hires Disney’s Daly

DreamWorks SKG named former Walt Disney Co. executive Ann Daly head of feature animation, the latest in a string of Disney executives to join the fledgling company.
Daly was president of the domestic home video at Disney’s Buena Vista Home Video Inc. before leaving last month. She helped forge Disney’s strategy of producing films that bypassed theaters and went straight to video, such as the “Aladdin” videos and the recent “Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves.”
At DreamWorks, she will oversee an animation division that is trying to compete with Disney. Its first planned release, “Prince of Egypt,” is in production. The feature is about Moses.
DreamWorks, which was started two years ago, has hired several animators away from Disney and one of the company’s founders, Jeffrey Katzenberg, used to run Disney’s film unit.
Daly ran the video unit for Disney since 1992. Before that she was senior vice president for marketing in the division.
In a statement, Katzenberg praised Daly as “one of the top women executives in the entertainment industry.”
“Ann has been responsible for developing some of the most innovative and dynamic marketing concepts in the video business,” Katzenberg said in a statement.
