Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Dalzell, a Ventura homemaker with a passion for golfing, died Monday in her home. She was 82.
Born in Michigan on April 15, 1915, she moved with her family to California when she was 2. Her father, William Shiels, founded a major insurance company, said her daughter, Elizabeth “Betsy” Barron of Studio City.
For years, Dalzell lived with her husband, Arch, in Studio City, where they raised five children. In the early 1980s, the couple relocated to their regular vacation spot, Ventura, after Arch’s retirement.
Daughter Patricia Sheckells of Burbank said her mother will be remembered for her love of family, her hatred of injustice and her penchant for collecting things.
Dalzell is also survived by sons Dennis of Chatsworth and David of Valley Village, daughter Archa Marer of Santa Maria, sister Mati Buchannan of Florida, and longtime friends and ex-sisters-in-law, Patti and Jane Dalzell. She also leaves 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, grandson Christopher Behrens, sisters Carolyn Galloway and Bicki Olson, and brothers William and Jack Shiels.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura. The Rev. Jonathan Mulford will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Livingston Memorial Hospice Assn., 1996 Eastman Ave., Suite 101, Ventura 93003.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura.
