Cancer Survivors to Gather for Barbecue
Hundreds of cancer survivors from across Ventura County and the western San Fernando Valley are expected to gather Sunday for an annual barbecue celebrating National Cancer Survivors Day.
The local event will coincide with celebrations nationwide for cancer patients, cancer survivors and cancer-related health-care professionals.
Organizers say the point of the event is to remind cancer patients that they are not alone, and point out that people do survive cancer and go on to lead productive lives.
This year’s event will be held on the front lawn of the Wellness Community-Valley-Ventura, 530 Hampshire Road, Westlake Village. The family barbecue will run from 2 to 5 p.m. and will include entertainment and events honoring cancer survivors.
The free event is sponsored by several community organizations and local corporations, including SHC Specialty Hospital, Columbia Cancer Center at Columbia Los Robles Hospital, Amgen, the American Cancer Society, the Wellness Community, Coastal Radiation and Weiser Litho.
