Pack rats and procrastinators of Thousand Oaks, take heed: Saturday is the time to dispose of the old couch, the washing machine and all the other trash and junk in the garage.
Thousand Oaks will hold its annual Community Cleanup and Recycling Day on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Conejo Creek Park, opposite the Thousand Oaks Teen Center on Janss Road.
The free event will allow city residents to properly dispose of trash, appliances, furniture and other items that can be recycled or donated to Goodwill Industries of Ventura County.
It is sponsored by Thousand Oaks, Block Disposal, GI Rubbish, Newbury Disposal, Waste Management Inc. and Goodwill.
“This is one of our most popular events of the year and a great time to clean out backyards and garages,” Mayor Judy Lazar said.
The program usually collects 250 to 300 tons of material, and about one-third of that is saved from landfills, according to environmental programs manager Grahame Watts.
Nonhazardous waste, residential trash, recyclables and unwanted goods are allowed, but no commercial waste will be accepted. Proof of residency is required.
For more information, call Thousand Oaks’ recycling hotline at 449-SAVE.
