McDowell Placed on Disabled List
The Cleveland Indians put Jack McDowell on the 15-day disabled list due to a painful right elbow. Doctors at Cleveland’s Lutheran Hospital discovered a small piece of soft tissue called a skin flap pinched against a bone.
McDowell was scheduled to fly to Birmingham, Ala., today to meet with a specialist and make a final decision on surgery.

Darryl Strawberry ran with a noticeable limp and was hitless in two at-bats during his rehabilitation start with the New York Yankees’ double-A team, the Norwich (Conn.) Navigators.
Strawberry, placed on the disabled list April 11, played his first live game in more than a month.

The Indians announced rescheduled dates for rained-out games against the Angels, Tigers and Rangers. The April 12 game against the Angels will be played on the afternoon of July 28. . . . Boston second baseman John Valentin is out of the lineup while he undergoes tests on his left wrist for a chronic condition that recently worsened.
