GLENDALE — A mail clerk was charged with rape Monday in connection with the nightlong sexual assault of an 83-year-old woman in her home last week, authorities said.
Mark Curtis Robb, a former rock drummer who had lived near the widow for more than six years, was accused of assaulting the woman during an eight-hour ordeal ending at dawn Thursday.
Robb was charged with three counts of rape, five counts each of sodomy, five counts of penetration with a foreign object, two counts of sexual battery, one count of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of burglary.
According to Glendale police, Robb called the woman, who lives alone, and asked to use her bathroom because the plumbing in the house he shares with his roommate was faulty. The assailant came out of the bathroom with a large kitchen knife, Deputy Dist. Atty. Michael Grosbard said, then bound her hands with duct tap during part of the attack.
Robb, who was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail, is scheduled to appear in court June 2, said Sandi Gibbons, spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.
The victim, who was treated at a local hospital and released, was taken to her daughter’s house in the San Diego area after the attack, a neighbor said.
