Ex-School Principal Gets 3 Years for Stealing From District
A former Inglewood Adult School principal was sentenced to three years in state prison after being found guilty of stealing $27,000 from the Inglewood School District.
John Rabun, the principal at the school for 10 years, was sentenced last Friday by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Curtis Rappe, who also ordered Rabun to reimburse the school district $22,150, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. Daniel Nixon. Reimbursement of the rest of the funds is to be worked out later.
Rabun, 59, was taken into custody after his sentencing and is awaiting a bail hearing scheduled for Friday, the district attorney’s office said.
Rabun was convicted of misappropriating public funds and of grand theft by embezzlement. The embezzlement involved a July 8, 1994, check reportedly made out to Rabun from the school’s account, prosecutors said. It was used by Rabun one week later to close escrow on his 3,750-square-foot home in Ladera Heights, the district attorney’s office said.
