Fire Station Contract to Be Considered

The City Council today will consider awarding a $2.4-million contract to D.K.S. Contracting and Engineering Inc. of Lake Forest to build a fire station at Clementine Street and Freedman Way.
The fire station is now in the resort area on Manchester Avenue near Freedman Way and the Santa Ana Freeway.
Because of the freeway widening project, the station is being relocated. An agreement with the Orange County Transportation Authority provides for the city to be reimbursed for all construction costs and also compensated for the appraised value of the building site, a staff report said.
The Fire Department will continue to use the Manchester station during construction. Work on the new station is expected to start in July and to take about nine months, fire officials said.
Also on today’s council agenda is a public hearing on projects proposed by Fairmont Private School.
Fairmont officials want to build a 13,225-square-foot gymnasium on its high school campus at 2212 W. Sequoia Ave.
The 4-year-old high school now has about 175 students and expects to expand to enrollment of more than 400 within five years.
The council also will consider a proposal by Fairmont to convert an auditorium into nine classrooms on its elementary school campus at 5310 E. La Palma Ave.
The council will meet at 5 p.m. in chambers, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd. Information: (714) 254-5166.
