A teenager who was shot and killed Sunday at an Anaheim apartment building has been identified as Daniel Kuehl, 14.
Police said Kuehl was acquainted with Johnny Hartley, 19, one of two males who were arrested on suspicion of murder in the shooting and remained in custody Monday.
Kuehl and Hartley both were admitted gang members, Lt. Ted Labahn said. But police are unsure whether that figured in the shooting, he said.
Police said Kuehl, Hartley and another 14-year-old boy were on the balcony of Kuehl’s apartment in the 1600 block of West Juno Avenue at 2 p.m. Sunday when Hartley pointed a sawed-off rifle at Kuehl and it went off. Kuehl was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he died.
Police said Hartley told them he didn’t know the gun was loaded, but they are handling the case as a homicide. The 14-year-old suspect, whose name was not released, was being held in Orange County Juvenile Hall.
