Wider Weapons Law to Be Considered

A proposal to ban the use of BB guns, slingshots, pellet guns, bows and arrows and dart guns within city limits will be considered by the City Council on Monday.
Sheriff’s deputies occasionally encounter people using BB guns or other weapons in the city’s 40 parks, Sheriff’s Lt. Kim Markusson said. Currently, deputies can’t write citations for that.
Markusson said he wanted to see such weapons outlawed before school lets out for the summer.
The proposal would add the weapons to an ordinance that outlaws the discharge of firearms in the city.
“We need this to close a loophole,” Markusson said.
