Hart Rolls to 8th Straight Golf Title
The Hart High golf team won its eighth consecutive Foothill League championship and the Indians’ Brandon Wallace won the individual title Wednesday in the season’s final league match at Harding Golf Course in Griffith Park.
Hart shot eight-over-par 368 in the final round of a four-day team tournament. The Indians finished with 29 1/2 points.
Valencia was second with 23 points and Canyon edged Burroughs for third, 19-18 1/2. The top three teams advance to the Southern Section West Regional on Monday at Industry Hills.
Wallace, a sophomore, needed a par on the second sudden-death playoff hole to defeat teammate Charlie Smith for the individual title. Smith and the next 17 finishers will compete today for the league’s three remaining spots in the Southern Section individual tournament, to be held May 30 in Palm Springs.
Mission League finals--Brian Woolf had two eagles en route to a five-under-par 67 and Chuck Ruiz shot a 70 at Harding Golf Course to lift Alemany to its second consecutive title.
SOFTBALL
Louisville 8, Flintridge Sacred Heart 1--Kelly McGee had a run-scoring triple and Rosie Chingcuangco had a run-scoring double for the Royals (12-9, 3-4) in a Mission League game at Glorietta Park.
Stefanie Urman (12-9) pitched a one-hitter with one strikeout.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Westlake 15, Newbury Park 3--The Warriors won their 17th match without a defeat and improved to 13-0 in Marmonte League play.
Erik Janson and Garrett Wong, Westlake’s top singles players, each recorded three-set victories.
Thousand Oaks 12, Simi Valley 6--Jeff Linneman lost only one game at No. 1 singles while leading the Lancers to a singles sweep in a Marmonte league match at Simi Valley (12-7, 6-7).
Rio Mesa 12, Malibu 6--Freshmen Chris Worthington and Quinn Borchard ran their record to 22-0 with a 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 3 doubles for the Spartans (16-3) in a nonleague match at Rio Mesa.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Palmdale d. Antelope Valley, 15-3, 12-15, 14-16, 15-6, 15-8--Arron Mezey had 21 kills, Aaron Winchester had 20 kills and eight blocks and Jarrod Cline set the Falcons’ single-match assist record with 62 in a Golden League match at Palmdale (7-6, 5-4).
Providence d. Yeshiva, 15-1, 15-5, 15-10--Jose Tano had eight kills for Providence (15-0), which finished 10-0 in Liberty League play.
