Forum Set on Woes of School District
A community forum is scheduled today to bring officials from the troubled Compton Unified School District together with parents and community members.
It will be led by Randolph E. Ward, who was hired last November as the state administrator for the Compton district. More than 700 people participated in similar forums in January.
A forum held Wednesday and the one planned today are designed to present a progress report on the district, said spokeswoman Vivien Hao.
The 28,000-student Compton school district was put into state receivership in 1993, amid allegations of financial and academic mismanagement. Ward is the fifth in a series of state administrators appointed since the takeover to run the Compton schools.
Hao said the community forum will not be an appropriate place in which to raise individual parent or student concerns, which should be addressed to local principals or deputy superintendents of educational services.
The forum will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Rosecrans Elementary School, 1301 N. Acacia Ave., Compton. For information, call (310) 639-4321, Ext. 5294.
