Experts to Discuss Domestic Violence
UC Irvine will host a free symposium on domestic violence from 6:30 to 10 p.m. today.
National and local authorities will address ways to help domestic violence victims and their children. They will also discuss methods to stop abusers from being violent.
The symposium’s keynote speaker is Cris Sullivan, a psychologist at Michigan State University who studies women at shelters and other havens from abuse.
Sullivan’s speech will be followed by a panel discussion including Vivian Clecak, executive director of Laguna Beach-based Human Options; Michael Hass, educational psychologist at Anaheim Union High School District; and Alyce La Violette, founder of Alternatives to Violence in Long Beach.
Raymond Novaco, a UC Irvine professor who studies the psychology of anger and fear, will serve as the panel’s moderator.
The conference will be at Crystal Cove Auditorium in UC Irvine’s Student Center.
