Take Mom on a date to see the marvelous Plaids. Stuart Ross’ warm and funny hit musical, “Forever Plaid,” about an early ‘60s harmony group’s comeback from beyond, is a show almost anyone will enjoy. Saturday Morning

You and Mom can exercise for a good cause, joining friends supporting friends, cancer survivors and their loved ones, celebrities and elite runners of every stripe at the 4th Annual Revlon Run/Walk. The 5-kilometer race raises money to cure breast and ovarian cancer. The course begins at Sunset Boulevard, continues around UCLA and finishes at Drake Stadium. The run starts at 9 a.m. with the walk following at 9:15. Late registration ($25) begins at 7 a.m. at UCLA near Stone Canyon Road and Sunset Boulevard. Call (818) 759-9522.

Saturday Afternoon

Venture to downtown L.A. to the Grier-Musser Museum, in a lovely 1898 Queen Anne Victorian House at 403 S. Bonnie Brae St., (213) 413-1814. The new exhibit, “Remembrances of Mother,” traces the history of Mother’s Day and pays tribute to America’s first ladies. Open Wednesday through Friday, noon to 4 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Have cocktails and watch the sunset at the Tower Restaurant high atop the Transamerica Building, 1150 S. Olive St., between 11th and 12th streets, downtown, (213) 746-1554. Open for drinks from 5:30 p.m.

Go home and rent “Secrets & Lies,” just released on video last week. Mike Leigh’s film is the story of an unlikely mother and daughter who have to learn to love each other late in life, starring Oscar nominees Brenda Blethyn and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.

Forget to make reservations for Mother’s Day brunch? Never fear; some of the best brunches in the Southland are served up at places that don’t accept reservations. For a Southern-style meal complete with collard greens, corn bread and fried chicken, try Aunt Kizzy’s Back Porch, Villa Marina Shopping Center, 4325 Glencoe Ave. at Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey, (310) 578-1005. Stroll through the James J. White Rose Garden at the South Coast Botanic Garden, 26300 Crenshaw Blvd., Palos Verdes Peninsula, (310) 544-1948, then head inside for a Mother’s Day concert by the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band in the Frances Young Hall. Concert at 2 p.m. included in admission fee: $5 adults, $3 seniors and students, $1 children 5 to 12. Tram tours of the garden, Saturdays and Sundays only at 11 a.m., 2 and 3 p.m., are $1.50 per person over 2.

Or attend one of only two annual public tours of the historic Castle Green, 99 S. Raymond Ave. in Pasadena, 1 to 6 p.m., (818) 793-0359. Opened in 1899 as the second of three buildings in the Hotel Green complex, the project was designed by architect Fredrick Roehrig, who drew on Moorish, Spanish and Victorian stylistic elements. Tickets $10; no advance sales.
