Digioia Leaves His Mark With 375-Yard Drive
John Digioia smashed a 375-yard drive to win the local qualifier for the Remax National Long Drive competition Saturday on the 10th hole at Los Robles Golf Club in Thousand Oaks.
Chris Toshes (372 yards 5 inches), Chris Kightlinger (369 yards 2 inches) and Marc Ceschin (365 yards 1 foot 7 inches) also qualified for the national finals to be held Oct. 21 in Mesquite, Nev.
In the 45-and-over division, John McClintock qualified with a drive of 331 yards 1 foot 7 seven inches.
Swimming
Royal High senior Jamie McIntyre has committed to Texas A&M; and will receive a partial scholarship.
McIntyre finished sixth in the 100-yard butterfly at the Southern Section Division I championships last year and was a consolation finalist in the 200 individual medley.
McIntyre also considered Arizona.
Recreation
The sixth annual Monarch Classic Celebrity golf tournament to benefit Valley College football is scheduled for Monday at Vista Valencia Golf Course in Valencia.
Play begins at noon, with registration beginnng at 10:30 a.m. The event will include longest drive, best score, closest to the pin, and hole-in-one competitions.

Entry deadline for the sixth annual California Racquetball Singles Championships is Monday.
The championships are scheduled for Friday through Sunday at Racquetball World in Canoga Park.
Skill-based competition ranges from open to novice divisions. Adult age groups begin at 25 and over, and increase in five-year increments to 65 and over for women and 75 and over for men. There will be 10-and-under, 12-and-under and 14-and-under junior divisions.
Cost to enter is $40 for most divisions. Junior and novice division registration is $20. Entry forms are available at Racquetball World and most health clubs with racquetball courts.

The California Adaptive Ski School will stage the first session of the Hartford’s Off-Road Wheelchair Series on Monday through Wednesday at Bear Mountain Ski Resort.
The series of three-day camps offers people with disabilities the opportunity to participate in mountain biking through use of a specially designed wheelchair with mountain-bike wheels and tires.
