Corona del Mars Wins in Tennis

NEWPORT BEACH —  Jon Capello and Chris Jensen swept in singles to help Corona del Mar, ranked fifth in the county, beat third-ranked Santa Margarita, 14-4, in a Sea View League boys’ tennis match Thursday at Corona del Mar.

Capello swept, 6-3, 6-4, 6-1, and Jensen swept, 6-2, 6-0, 6-4, for Corona del Mar (9-4, 4-1 in league), which won eight of nine singles sets and moved into second place ahead of Santa Margarita (13-2, 3-2).

Sameer Chopra and Cameron Taylor swept in doubles for Corona del Mar, 6-3, 6-3, 6-0.

Cody Shedd was the only singles winner for Santa Margarita, defeating Curtis Ellmore, 7-5.

Santa Margarita’s team of Garrick Gaffney and Andy Larson won twice in doubles, 6-1, 6-4, and Dan Deen and Jason Walsh, defeated Corona del Mar’s Sam Shahmardi and Egan Mozeyani, 6-1, for the Eagles’ only other victory.
