Prop. 209

The fall of affirmative action signals that just maybe California is becoming cognizant of such a racist system. Opponents of Prop. 209 argue that affirmative action is an effort to create equality between the races. Yet, this system of legalized discrimination only furthers the gap from a colorblind society.
A system that admits individuals to colleges and jobs based on their ethnicity and not their ability is a travesty of the American dream of “all men are equal.” Under affirmative action, all men are not treated equally. It is pure discrimination when individuals are not admitted to a college or hired for a job because they are the wrong color or gender. All people deserve equal opportunities based on their abilities, not their ethnicity or gender.
