Alemany Opens With a Shutout
Meghann Reiss and Regina Yuhasz had run-scoring singles in the third inning for Alemany High in a 2-0 victory over Notre Dame in a Mission League softball opener Wednesday at Notre Dame.
Kim Diener (12-3), who entered the game with a 1.13 earned-run average, pitched a four-hitter and struck out six for Alemany (12-3).
The Indians are ranked eighth in the region by The Times and are defending Mission League champions.
Patricia Wetzel (3-4) had six strikeouts for Notre Dame (4-5).
Chaminade 11, Flintridge Sacred Heart 0--Sophomore right-hander Maureen LeCocq (7-4) pitched a no-hitter, her fourth consecutive shutout for the Eagles (7-5, 1-0), in a Mission League game at Glorietta Park.
The shutout was LeCocq’s sixth of the season. She struck out nine and walked two, and has not allowed a run in 29 innings.
Amy Biersch had a single, double, triple and five RBIs for Chaminade.
Monroe 9, Sylmar 4--Lupe Brambila (8-6, 5-0) hit her ninth home run for the Vikings in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Sylmar.
Brambila, a senior catcher, entered the game leading all City Section players from the region in home runs, batting average (.595), runs batted in (26) and stolen bases (17).
Cori Jordahl (4-3) struck out four for the Vikings.
Monica Rodriguez had two triples and a run batted in.
Reseda 1, Poly 0--Stephanie Yeatts’ bases-loaded single in the 13th inning drove in Gabriela Lopez in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Reseda.
Yeatts (3-2), a freshman, pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts for the Regents (6-4, 4-1).
Katie Dardenelle had two hits for Poly (8-3, 4-1).
Mary Casillas (4-2) gave up eight hits, struck out eight and did not walk a batter.
Van Nuys 10, Canoga Park 8--Veronica Ramos hit a single, a double and a two-run home run and Cassie Allison added a three-run home run for the Wolves (7-7, 2-3) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.
North Hollywood 21, Grant 14--Robin Rolfe was three for three, including two triples, and had four RBIs for the Huskies (5-9, 1-4) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Grant.
North Hollywood led, 13-3, after 3 1/2 innings, then trailed, 14-13, after five innings.
