Warrant Obtained in Beating Death
SANTA CLARITA — Sheriff’s deputies obtained an arrest warrant Wednesday for a suspect in the fatal beating of 19-year-old Michael Barnett, who died Monday after being found unconscious in a church parking lot.
Authorities could not make public the suspect’s name nor elaborate on when an arrest might be made, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Angie Prewett said.
Barnett of Newhall was found in the parking lot of Grace Baptist Church in Newhall by a church employee at 5:30 a.m. Sunday. Deputies said Barnett was badly beaten and suffered major head injuries.
He was rushed to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital and died Monday morning without regaining consciousness.
