No. 3 Doubles Victory Is Difference for Foothill

John Goss and Nick Mucha’s sweep at No. 3 doubles turned out to be the deciding factor in eighth-ranked Foothill’s 10-8 victory over unranked Villa Park in Century League boys’ tennis Tuesday at Villa Park.
Goss and Mucha won, 6-7, 7-5, 6-3. Junior Joost Hol swept in singles, 6-0, 6-4, 6-2, for Foothill, which improved to 8-5, 3-1. Villa Park dropped to 7-4, 2-1.
In Pacific Coast League tennis:
University 10, Laguna Beach 8--Scott Morgan and Jammy Yang won two of three doubles sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, to lift seventh-ranked University (8-3, 5-1). Aaron Talarico swept his singles sets, 6-0, 6-2, 6-0, for the Artists (3-2 in league).
In the Sea View League:
Santa Margarita 18, El Toro 0--Andrew Tsu swept in singles, 6-1, 6-1, 6-1, for Santa Margarita (13-1, 3-1). Teammate Derek Fears also swept for the third-ranked Eagles.
In the South Coast League:
Dana Hills 11, Mission Viejo 7--Reid Spiegl and Blake Wilson-Hayden swept in doubles, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2, for host Dana Hills (10-1, 2-0), ranked second in the county.
In Century League golf:
Villa Park 189, El Modena 223--Adam Hanbarian shot two under with three birdies on the par-36 Green River Golf Course to lead fifth-ranked Villa Park (9-1, 4-0).
In the Sea View League:
Corona del Mar 202, Santa Margarita 202 (Corona del Mar wins on sixth man, 42-43)--Craig Brooks shot a 39 on the par-36 course at Coto de Caza to lead unranked Corona del Mar (9-1, 5-0) over top-ranked Santa Margarita (9-1, 4-1).
In Arrowhead League softball:
Southern California Christian 10, Riverside La Sierra Academy 0 (5 mercy)--Delci Huntley (7-1) struck out 11 and recorded her second no-hitter of the season for Southern California Christian (7-1, 1-0).
In the Century League:
Canyon 2, Santa Ana Valley 0--Veronica Lopez, who had an RBI double in the first inning, pitched a one-hitter in her first game back from a three-week absence after injuring her knee. Host Canyon (14-7-1, 1-0) is ranked 10th in Southern Section Division III.
Foothill 5, Villa Park 0--Lindsay Fossatti (8-1) threw a two-hitter for second-ranked Foothill (16-2-1, 1-0) in its league opener.
In the Sunset League:
Los Alamitos 2, Esperanza 0--Sara Kahler had two hits and an RBI and Mandy Rockwell struck out 11 and pitched a one-hitter. She allowed only a two-out single in the sixth to Katie Louwsma as host Los Alamitos improved to 11-5, 1-0.
Marina 7, Fountain Valley 3--Brooke Boyer had three hits, two RBIs and a run and Heather Hagen had two hits, three runs and pitched a three-hitter for visiting Marina (8-7-1, 1-0).
In Sunset League girls’ swimming:
Esperanza 112, Huntington Beach 74--Allyson Brown won the 500 freestyle in 5:10.72 for seventh-ranked Esperanza, which remains undefeated in league (3-0). Senior Janella Bart of Huntington Beach, who has the third-fastest breaststroke time in the county this season, won that event in 1:08.81, and teammate Meghan Casillian was first in the 100 backstroke (1:02.78).
Marina 105, Los Alamitos 81--Kyoko Yokouchi won the 200 individual medley (2:12.08) and 100 backstroke (1:01.06) as Marina upset fifth-ranked Los Alamitos.
In Sea View League boys’ volleyball:
Corona del Mar 3, El Toro 1--Blair Hoppe had 15 kills, Tim Andrews contributed 13 and Dennis Alshuler 12 for fifth-ranked Corona del Mar (6-1, 3-0), which won, 15-8, 12-15, 15-9, 15-10.
Newport Harbor 3, Irvine 0--Dana Mesenbrink had 15 kills, Adam Hearlson contributed 12 and Travis Nelson had 52 assists for sixth-ranked Newport Harbor (5-4, 2-1), which won, 15-9, 15-9, 15-10.
In the South Coast League:
Capistrano Valley 3, San Clemente 0--Ryan Thurlow had 21 kills for fourth-ranked Capistrano Valley, which defeated No. 9 San Clemente, 15-13, 15-2, 15-5.
