The new master of golf’s Masters Tournament was not in the audience, but nonetheless received loud applause from his hometown City Council on Monday night.
Mayor Tom Carroll opened the council meeting by noting that Tiger Woods, who won the Masters on Sunday, grew up in Cypress.
“I think we should start out by recognizing one of our hometown boys, Tiger Woods,” Carroll told the council and a large audience in the Council Chambers. The room then filled with applause as council members and people in the audience loudly cheered Woods.
The mayor noted that Woods, who travels on the golf circuit extensively, is no longer a permanent resident.
“His family still lives here, and we’re proud of that,” Carroll said.
