The Sniff ‘n’ Lose Diet

In case you haven’t heard, the April Ladies Home Journal reports that smelling fresh fruit can cause you to lose weight. In a six-month study by the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation, 3,193 overweight volunteers were given aromatic inhalers and told to sniff a fragrance (banana, green apple or peppermint) whenever they felt hungry, but not to change their regular diet or exercise habits. Participants lost an average of five pounds a month, presumably because the pleasant odors tricked the appetite.
Swirl, Spit, Then Brush
The British Dental Assn. has warned wine tasters not to swirl fine wines to excess; it could rot their teeth. A 52-year-old wine merchant was found to have teeth so eroded that his fillings were protruding. “Acid in the wine had eaten away at the enamel in his teeth during a 40-year career when he tasted an average of 30 wines a day,” reports WINV by Fax, a report to Wine Investor subscribers. Brush twice a day and see your dentist, the British group concluded.
Let’s see if we have this right. The guy started tasting 30 wines a day when he was 12?
