Sheriff’s deputies captured a 17-year-old driver Monday after he led them on a dangerous chase, at one point driving through the courtyard of Aliso Elementary School, authorities said.
No one was injured in the chase, which began about 11:30 a.m. near Ridge Route Drive and Muirlands Boulevard after officers spotted a two-door sports car with a minor equipment violation, Lt. Ron Wilkerson said. The driver sped away, going through some residential streets and then onto the grounds of Aliso Elementary.
The driver, whose name was not released because of his age, abandoned the car moments later, but was captured on Loumont Drive shortly afterward, Wilkerson said.
Deputies said the car’s dashboard was destroyed, indicating it might have been stolen. Investigators also found cash and methamphetamine, Wilkerson said.
The 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property, felony child endangerment and possessing narcotics with the intent to sell.
