I tried getting a simple question answered at the L.A. County tax collector’s office recently. I asked several employees where I could drop off an envelope containing a friend’s property tax payment. Customer service? The staff apparently had never heard of it.

Here’s a new word I propose for attempting to get information from an ossified bureaucratic system seen often in governmental agencies-”exaspermation.” And our tax dollars are paying for this. How sad!
