Stepping up: Pepperdine rose from fifth to fourth this week in the men’s volleyball coaches’ poll.
UCLA, the Waves’ opponent at 7:30 tonight at Pauley Pavilion, gained two spots to No. 1 after sweeping previously top-ranked Brigham Young.
Disabled list: David Rhoades, Pepperdine’s first-base coach, is sidelined after breaking his collarbone in a collision with Long Beach State first baseman Keith Cowley, who was chasing a foul pop fly in a game two weeks ago.
Keeping with tradition: Josh Canales of Moorpark College placed second and teammate J.J. Noble was sixth in the decathlon in the Southern California Junior College championships at Santa Barbara City College.
It is the eighth consecutive season a Raider has finished in the top six and qualified for the state meet.
