Donated Hillside Land to Be Dedicated
The Ojai Valley Land Conservancy will hold a ceremony Sunday to dedicate 80 acres of pristine hillside that a Santa Barbara couple recently donated to the organization.
Dubbed “Afternoon in the Hills,” the celebration will include a Chumash ceremony, singing by Ojai Valley School students and an award to the donors, Joseph and Judy Ilvento of Santa Barbara.
The land donation is the first the nonprofit conservancy has received, and the property will be retained in its natural state in perpetuity.
The tract is between Ojai Valley School and Thacher High School in the valley’s east end.
The musical celebration will run from 3 to 5 p.m. at Ojai Valley School’s Upper Campus off Reeves Road. The 5:30 p.m. dedication ceremony follows at Meditation Mount, which is a short hike or drive from the school and offers a spectacular vantage point overlooking what will be known as the Ilvento Open Space Preserve.
