Quartz Hills Lowers Boom on Highland
Seniors Michelle Perry and Kenya Corley each won two individual events to help Quartz Hill High to a 94-42 victory over Highland in a Golden League girls’ track and field meet Thursday at Quartz Hill.
Perry, defending Southern Section Division I champion in the 100- and 300-meter low hurdles, won those events in 14.6 seconds and 49.4 and also ran the first leg on a 400 relay team that timed a winning 49.9.
Corley, 1996 Division I champion in the long jump for Antelope Valley High, won that event at 17 feet 11 1/2 inches, won the high jump at five feet and anchored the Rebels’ 400 relay team.
Andrea Neipp, 1996 state Division II cross-country champion, won the 1,600 in 5:03.2 and the 800 in 2:35.6 for Highland.
BOYS’ TRACK
Rio Mesa 110, San Marcos 43, Buena 34--Carl Richardson won the 100 in 10.7, the 200 in 22.7 and the 110 high hurdles in 15.0 for the Spartans in a Channel League meet at Rio Mesa.
Kris Phillips was a double winner in the long jump (22-6) and triple jump (45-2) for the Spartans (3-0, 2-0 in league meets).
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Providence d. Flintridge Prep, 10-15, 15-2, 15-9, 15-4--Jose Tano had 17 kills, while Kevin Flynn and D.J. Petcharamuk each added 13 for the Pioneers (7-0) at Flintridge Prep (4-5).
Setter Bobby Chalermsopone had 38 assists and 10 kills for Providence.
