The World Still Needs Old-Fashioned Stores

Well done to John Morell (“Nuts, Bolts and Know-How,” March 9). In this hustle-bustle world with gigantic home improvement emporiums, it’s refreshing to see that an old-fashioned part of America still exists, such as the local hardware store, where the owner and employees were also more often than not your neighbors as well.
While Home Depot and their like definitely have their place in society, let’s not lose the mom-and-pop type of private enterprise that gives professional service with a personal touch.
