American’s Pilots See Contract Progress

The pilots union reported progress in resolving a dispute with American Airlines over commuter flights, but its board adjourned until next month without deciding whether to back American’s new contract proposal. James Sovich, president of the Allied Pilots Assn., added that after two days of union discussions on the contract proposal, the APA would make no more concessions to avert a threatened strike set for April 28. Sovich said the most contentious issue is who will pilot new small jets American is to buy for its regional carrier, American Eagle.
