Man Who Leaped to His Death Identified

Authorities have identified a 31-year-old man who killed himself by jumping off a freeway overpass in Ventura.
Jerry Joseph Lodl of Ventura was apparently distraught over a recent divorce when he ran into the northbound lanes of the Ventura Freeway near the Lemon Grove curve about 1 a.m. Friday, officials said.
Ventura police officers were trying to subdue the man when he broke free and jumped from the overpass onto Channel Drive, 40 feet below.
Coroner’s officials said the cause of death was head trauma.
