Coach: Damon Robbins (first year).
1996: 18-4, 10-0 in Garden Grove League, lost to Aliso Niguel in second round of Southern Section playoffs.
Key returners: Danny Bue, No. 3 singles, Jr.; Sam Choe, No. 3 doubles, Jr.; Jason Choi, No. 3 doubles, Jr.; Andro Ignacio, No. 1 singles, 164-16 in three-year career, Sr.; Alexander Iha, No. 2 doubles, Sr.; Huy Le, No. 2 doubles, Sr.; Tuan Nguyen, No. 2 singles, Jr.; Bryan Tran, No. 1 or 2 doubles, Sr.
Key newcomers: Kevin Kim, No. 3 doubles, So.
Outlook: Garden Grove’s streak of 64 league victories in a row figures to continue but it will do so without Kevin Starnes, who left coaching so he could devote more time to teaching private tennis lessons. Many of Starnes’ students are his former players so the Argonauts should be much improved over last year’s team, which lost only two players to graduation. The Argonauts have been able to dominate their league but they have had problems when they have stepped out and played the top teams. This could be the year they upset a perennial tennis power and go deeper into the playoffs.
