California on $583 per day? On a motorcycle?
That’s the premise of the second annual Carefree Riders Odyssey, a six-day journey through northern California that begins April 24. The tour includes three nights each at the high-end Carmel Valley Ranch and the Silverado Country Club & Resort in Napa Valley, most meals, escorted daily motorcycle treks, vineyard tours, various entertainment--and temporary tattoos.
The cost is $3,500 per person, double occupancy; $400 more for singles. Participants can ride their own bike to the Carmel starting point or rent one ($100 to $150 per day). Reservations: (800) 422-7635.
Lovers of the road who prefer four wheels have another new option: California Dreamin’ Topless Tours. Drivers get to grab the wheel of vintage roadsters, such as the 1965 Shelby AC Cobra 427 SC, for three- to five-day journeys beginning in San Francisco. Several routes, are offered April through October. Prices start at $1,200 per person for three days, with lodging, dinners and fuel. Reservations: (510) 284-5039.
