Lounging Around L.A.
Only a few rooms in Los Angeles specialize in cabaret acts, but plenty of other places feature attractive if lesser-known performers. Prices range from as much as a $20 to $25 cover and a two-drink minimum at a large room such as the Cinegrill to as little as a $5 cover at the Derby and no cover in some smaller rooms.
The Cinegrill (7000 Hollywood Blvd., [213] 466-7000) in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is Southern California’s most dependable cabaret room, with a stellar lineup of major acts. Upcoming performers include Weslia Whitfield, Linda Hopkins, Christiane Callil, Maxine Weldon and Linda Jameson.
The Gardenia Club (7066 Santa Monica Blvd., [213] 467-7444) is small and cozy, with lesser-known but highly talented performers.
The Masquers Cabaret and Dinner Theatre (8334 W. 3rd St., [213] 653-4848) offers eclectic programming that mixes classic cabaret vocals with political humor, jazz and high camp.
