An Oxnard man and his wife were in Ventura County Jail on Tuesday awaiting arraignment on charges that they possessed more than $10,000 worth of counterfeit cash and traveler’s checks.
Edgar Gamboa, 36, and 33-year-old Marynette Gamboa, who is a citizen of the Philippines, were arrested Monday evening at the Macy’s department store at 477 S. Mills Road in Ventura for allegedly passing counterfeit traveler’s checks to the sales staff there, a Ventura Police Department spokesman said.
Police later found $9,000 worth of counterfeit traveler’s checks and $1,300 in counterfeit U.S. currency on the couple, the spokesman said.
The U.S. Secret Service was contacted and is participating in the investigation with police detectives.
