Oh so close: Pepperdine keeps getting nicked in close shaves.
The Waves are 0-5 in games decided by four points or fewer after Thursday night’s 69-68 overtime loss at Portland in a West Coast Conference men’s basketball game.
Leading by three, Pepperdine blew a chance to win in regulation after Tezale Archie fouled Portland’s Jimmie Rainwater on a three-point shot with two seconds left. Rainwater made the first free throw, missed the second and intentionally missed the third.
Brian Jackson grabbed the long rebound and scored with one second left to force overtime.
The Waves (4-13, 2-3 in conference play) have lost three WCC games by a total of six points.
566 is a crowd: Attendance at Northridge basketball games is up 32% from last season, but don’t get too excited. That’s only an increase from 428 fans per game to 566.
