Stolen Car Suspect Crashes, Eludes Police
After being chased briefly by police, a suspect driving a stolen car rolled the vehicle three times near the intersection of the Golden State and 118 freeways Wednesday before escaping on foot and eluding police.
The suspect remained “totally at large” and unidentified, said Lt. Jeff Hulet of the Los Angeles Police Department.
At about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Hulet said, an officer began following a stolen car. Moments later, the car crashed and came to rest on its roof.
The suspect, apparently uninjured, got out of the car and ran down an embankment toward Laurel Canyon Boulevard, with an officer pursuing him on foot. Police then searched the area and interviewed a witness who said the suspect had been picked up by a passing car, Hulet said.
No police or passersby were hurt in the chase or crash, Hulet said. Hours afterward, witnesses were still being questioned and leads followed.
“We’re anticipating we’re going to get a call from a local hospital,” Hulet said. “He’s got to be sore.”
