Preview Comet Hale-Bopp, expected to be very bright in March and April, in the morning sky this week. Look for it within 10 minutes of 5:45 a.m., when it is due east and about 15 degrees above the horizon. It is conspicuous through binoculars as an elongated smudge with a bright center and is also visable to the unaided eye. Comet Hale-Bopp is currently 200 million miles from Earth.
