Veritas Signs Pact With Sun Micro

Veritas Software Corp. said it signed a licensing and marketing agreement with computer workstation maker Sun Microsystems Inc. to sell its memory and computer-storage management software with Sun products. The Mountain View-based developer of software to help store and retrieve files on computer networks said it signed a three-year agreement to sell its Veritas Volume Manager disk and computer-storage management software with Sun Microsystems’ disk products. The agreement will be automatically renewed each year after the initial period, and both companies can opt out of the agreement at any time after three years, Veritas said. Veritas shares rose $6.75 to close at $51 in Nasdaq trading; Sun Microsystems, also based in Mountain View, lost 62.5 cents to close at $32.75, also on Nasdaq.
