Mission Viejo Tops Capistrano Valley
Tami Higham had 26 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots to help Mission Viejo beat ninth-ranked Capistrano Valley, 54-42, in a South Coast League game Tuesday at Mission Viejo High.
Mission Viejo (9-6, 2-2 in league) led at halftime, 24-14, but Jenny Jennings, who had 19 points, including five three-pointers, helped Capistrano Valley (13-6, 2-2) get as close as three points after three quarters.
But defensive efforts by Margaret Enoch and Geneva Kelly helped Mission Viejo hold Capistrano Valley to seven points in the fourth quarter and the Diablos pulled away.
In another South Coast League game:
Trabuco Hills 53, Dana Hills 34--Emily Deeley scored 28 points, including five three-pointers, for visiting Trabuco Hills (7-9, 1-3), which held Dana Hills without a field goal in the second quarter to take a 29-18 lead at halftime.
In the Academy League:
Liberty Christian 45, St. Margaret’s 36--Stephanie Wu scored 17 points and Sharon Halpin scored six of her seven points in the fourth quarter for Liberty Christian (7-6, 2-2), which outscored St. Margaret’s in the final quarter, 17-6.
In the Arrowhead League:
Southern California Christian 51, California School for the Deaf Riverside 40--Olga Ramos scored 16 points and Stephanie Myrant had 12 for SCC (5-10, 3-2).
In the Century League:
El Modena 56, Canyon 40--Valerie Matweeff scored 19 points and Karen Herco had 11 for El Modena (9-6, 2-2).
Foothill 48, Santa Ana Valley 28--Kerry Brunansky had 16 points and nine rebounds for Foothill (12-5, 4-0).
Villa Park 56, Orange 42--Missy Bynon scored 15 points for Villa Park (7-10, 3-1). Rachelle Ngayan scored 19 points, including four three-pointers, for Orange (7-9, 0-4).
In the Orange League:
Brea Olinda 82, Valencia 20--Rochelle Anthony scored 16 points, Stephanie Wettlin had 14 points and nine rebounds and Jennifer Saari added 13 points and 10 assists for second-ranked Brea Olinda (15-2, 4-0).
Savanna 60, Magnolia 31--Shannon Pendergraft scored 30 points, including five three-pointers, and Kai Starr had 10 points for Savanna (5-12, 2-1).
Western 78, Anaheim 33--Adrienne Ratajczak scored 22 points and Nahivie Echenique had 16 for Western (11-8, 1-2).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Estancia 54, Aliso Niguel 37--Amy Deming scored all 15 of her points in the second half for the host Eagles (10-9, 1-2). Estancia took control in the third quarter, holding Aliso Niguel (12-5, 1-2) to one basket in the quarter to take the lead, 40-26.
In the Sea View League:
El Toro 79, Corona del Mar 58--Freshman Giuliana Mendiola scored 35 points and her sister, Gioconda, had 12 for El Toro (15-4, 2-2).
Lindsay Warmington scored 22 points for Corona del Mar (3-12, 0-4).
Newport Harbor 65, Irvine 38--M.E. Clayton made six of nine field goals and finished with 20 points for Newport Harbor (11-7, 3-0).
Woodbridge 63, Santa Margarita 33--Cathy Joens scored 19 points and Nicole Roberts had 14 points for third-ranked Woodbridge, (14-3, 4-0).
In a nonleague game:
Tustin 53, Rancho Alamitos 33--Shamekia Perkins scored 27 points, including four three-pointers, for host Tustin (9-11).
Araceli Hernandez scored 19 points for Rancho Alamitos (7-11).
