Stabbing Victim Found After Fire
Detectives are seeking the assailant who stabbed and tried to burn a man whose body was discovered Tuesday morning by firefighters after a small fire in an abandoned building in Southwest Los Angeles, officials said.
Firefighters were sent to a blaze about 7 a.m. on the second story of an abandoned six-unit apartment building in the 5500 block of Blackwelder Street, said city fire spokesman Bob Collis.
The fire was put out within 10 minutes and damage to the building was estimated at $5,000, Collis said.
After the fire, authorities found the body, which was “significantly burned,” according to Lt. John Dunkin of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The identity of the man was not released. Investigators determined that the victim had been stabbed to death before the fire, officials said.
Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at South Bureau Homicide, (213) 237-1310.
