Man Plunges 40 Feet From Trestle Onto Santa Ana Freeway
A man was in critical condition late Tuesday after he fell more than 40 feet from a railroad trestle onto the Santa Ana Freeway in Commerce in what authorities said was an apparent accident.
The 30-year-old man, whose name was not released, was comatose when sheriff’s deputies arrived shortly after the 5 p.m. incident, said Sheriff’s Sgt. John McCann. The man, whom authorities described as a transient, was hospitalized at County-USC Medical Center.
An expired 1994 California driver’s license found on the man showed a Montebello address, but sheriff’s investigators were uncertain if the information was current.
According to McCann, the man fell onto the freeway’s shoulder. The fall was witnessed by a Sheriff’s Department employee who was traveling on the freeway and called for help.
McCann said it was unclear whether the man fell from a moving train or from the trestle.
