Instructor’s Widower Gives Gift to College
A Northridge man has given Mission College a $10,000 gift in memory of his late wife, who taught at the Sylmar campus. The money will go toward construction of the college’s library, which is near completion.
“It is a very generous gift,” said Dale Newman, president of the Mission College Academic Senate. “We’re in the process of forming a committee which will decide how best to use the money.”
Carla Bowman, who died in 1993 at age 60, had taught biology and microbiology at the college since 1976.
Henry C. Bowman’s gift will help the college finish its 57,000-square-foot library, which is slated to have 300 computers with Internet access, a teleconferencing center and a “virtual” library of information available only online.
“The entire building is dedicated to student success,” said college President William Norlund.
