LAFCO Seeking an Alternate Member

The Local Agency Formation Commission, which oversees the incorporation of new cities and other jurisdictional changes in Orange County, has an opening for an alternate board member.

The state agency must approve the creation of new municipalities, annexations and the dissolution of public agencies, among other tasks. Alternate members to the board are expected to attend all meetings and vote when regular members are absent.

The opening was created when LAFCO alternate member Lee Risner died earlier this month. His replacement will serve the remaining three years of his term.

Upcoming issues facing the board are expected to include South County incorporation efforts in Rancho Santa Margarita.

Board meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month at 10 a.m. in the county Planning Commission Hearing Room. Seven voting members and four alternates make up the board.

Alternate members are selected by the commission.

Applications and resumes for the post must be received by 5 p.m. Feb. 17. Applications are available at the LAFCO office, 12 Civic Center Plaza, Room 235, Santa Ana, and by phone.
