High school seniors who plan to attend college in the fall may apply through Feb. 26 for Irvine Co.’s 11th annual Spectrum Leadership Awards.
This year, the company will give a total of $48,000 in scholarships to 20 high school seniors who demonstrate qualities necessary to become community leaders.
To be eligible, a senior must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 and attend one of the following high schools: Irvine, Woodbridge or University in Irvine; Newport Harbor or Corona del Mar in Newport Beach; Estancia or Costa Mesa in Costa Mesa; Tustin; Foothill in Santa Ana; or Laguna Beach.
Scholarship applications are available in counselors’ offices at the schools.
A boy and a girl will be selected from each of the 10 schools. The 20 students then will participate in interviews to vie for semifinalist and finalist titles.
Each of the 20 students will receive $1,000 scholarships. Eight semifinalists each will receive an additional $2,000 to bring their total award to $3,000, and the four finalists will be given a total of $6,000.
