New Area Code for South County

The telephone company sees the need to divide North and South Orange County into two area codes, 714 and 949, respectively. Maybe the people living in 949 should vote to adjust the political borders to adjust to the new area code boundaries as well.

* Is the Public Utilities Commission being asked to implement a second county area code so that the telephone companies can collect additional revenue? I noticed your Dec. 27 article did not mention anything about this. Did The Times take it as a given?
