Anaheim District Trying On Uniforms

ANAHEIM — Trustees of the Anaheim Union High School District are continuing a study to determine whether to create a school uniform policy.
Trustees have scheduled a session Tuesday morning with administrators at Hacienda La Puente Unified School District, which requires its middle- and high-school students to wear uniforms.
The district also plans community input sessions at each school before it votes on the issue, said Katherine H. Smith, who initiated the discussion of adopting uniforms.
“We plan to go to the different schools and have meetings with the community to find out their thoughts about the effort,” she said.
Smith said she thinks uniforms would improve students’ behavior and increase their interest in academics.
“I’ve always felt dress changes behavior,” she said.
The trustees have not set dates yet for community discussions or a vote on the issue.
If a uniform policy were adopted, the district would give parents at least six months’ notice before implementing the change, Smith said.
