Ani DiFranco, who spices her concerts with insightful, often off-the-cuff comments, will release her first live album, the two-CD set “Living on the Clip,” in April. The collection was culled from shows performed over the past 1 1/2 years, with four songs that have not appeared on past albums. The Buffalo indie phenom is also planning for a new studio album in the fall. . . .

The new Nine Inch Nails song “The Perfect Drug,” from the soundtrack of the upcoming David Lynch film “Lost Highway,” will be on both an album (featuring other new songs by the Smashing Pumpkins and Marilyn Manson and score music by Lynch regular Angelo Badalamenti and Barry Adamson) and an EP featuring remixes by Goldie, Meat Beat Manifesto’s Jack Dangers, the Orb and Coil. The album is due Feb. 18, the EP shortly thereafter. . . .

Dave Grohl, currently in an L.A. studio working on the second Foo Fighters album with producer Gil Norton, has done the score music and three original songs for the soundtrack to “Touch,” a film by Paul Schrader (“Taxi Driver), due in theaters Feb. 14.

R.E.M.’s Peter Buck is planning to tour with former American Music Club leader Mark Eitzel to support Eitzel’s upcoming album. Buck produced and wrote the music for the album, with Eitzel writing the lyrics. No release or show dates have been announced. . . .

The Los Lobos spin-off Latin Playboys (featuring Lobos members David Hidalgo and Louie Perez with musician-producers Mitchell Froom and Tchad Blake) is working on a second album and planning on a first-ever concert tour, both expected by the end of the year.
