Valley Mansions: Despite a report this week that showed home prices dropping, the San Fernando Valley is still among the nation’s most expensive housing markets. So says a survey by real estate giant Coldwell Banker, which ranked 300 markets across the country based on their average price for a four-bedroom home. . . . The Valley came in 28th--just ahead of Long Beach and Hollywood--with an average price of $342,666. . . .
Yeah, Right: . . . Tell that to local homeowners and real estate agents, who have been warily watching home prices slide. More than half the Valley homes sold last year went for less than $150,000--the first time in a decade the median price has dipped that low.
Little Beauties: Is it wholesome fun or exploitation? Columnist Scott Harris (B1) takes a look at the Valley’s kiddie beauty pageant circuit and finds soul-searching in the wake of the death of Colorado’s JonBenet Ramsey. . . . In Santa Clarita, pageant organizer Marie Sprague, above, says it may be time to forbid makeup.
Family Affair: Disney screenwriters Cindy Marcus and Flip Kobler appreciate their parents so much they have written a play for them. It’s in the West Valley. . . . See Valley Weekend (F1B).
